Board Members

The board and the senior team of Visit Northumberland are the Voice of Tourism for Northumberland, directly linked to the specialisms and expertise of board members and the team. The Visit Northumberland board is therefore representative of the visitor economy of Northumberland and comprises members with the right balance of sector knowledge, skills, and experiences, with individuals elected in the capacity as Director or Advisors/Observers.

The Visit Northumberland board is responsible for setting and leading:

  • Objectives (vision, mission, and implementation)
  • Ethics (morals, behaviours, values, and standards)
  • Culture (support, innovation, openness and transparency and sensible risk taking).
  • Compliance (regulatory, statutory, and legal obligations, focusing management and staff on achieving the objectives)
  • Governance framework (performance of the organisation, overall responsibility, compliance with the SLA and reporting to partners and stakeholders)

The board sets the direction for Visit Northumberland and approves the action and delivery plan which are linked to the KPIs of the partnership agreement with Northumberland County Council, member and partner needs, the Destination Management Plan and activities linked to the Destination Development Partnership. The board is responsible for approving the relevant strategy and implementation plans and achievement therein. They also steer the development of the Destination Management Plan and the relevant action planning groups. They also set performance targets for the operational team.

Visit Northumberland holds 6 board meetings per year, which board members are expected to attend, as well as being active in support of the organisation and the profile of the visitor economy board meetings. This would include acting as an ambassador for Northumberland, advising the staff team, and attending action groups connected to board members identified specialisms.

Board meetings are usually held in the afternoon or early evenings and in agreed locations in Northumberland. There is also the option to join virtually.
